Albany County Industrial Development Agency assisted Plug Power, a hydrogen fuel cell manufacturer, with its new 407,000 square-foot $125 million manufacturing facility and headquarters in Vista Technology Park in Slingerlands. Since opening in 2023, Plug Power has added more than 50,000 square feet to the building, including a gym, cafeteria, training rooms, office space and grand lobby.  The company currently has more than 400 employees at the Vista Park location but hopes to increase its workforce to about 1,600 people.  If these job projections are met, Plug Power is eligible for $45 million in state tax credits. The company also received a $5 million grant from Albany County.

Plug Power’s newest products are manufactured at the facility, including stationary power fuel cells that provide up to 1.5 megawatts of electricity to industrial customers. The company is also developing new, larger hydrogen fuel cells for commercial trucks, data centers and potentially mini power plants that would replace gas-powered plants. Plug Power aims to be the world’s largest manufacturer of “green” hydrogen using an environmentally friendly way of producing hydrogen called electrolysis to separate hydrogen from water.
